B.C.: Governments Plan to Buy Vacant Condos

Opposition MPs asked an independent lobbying officer to review BC's $1.5B condo-conversion partnership, focusing on a Vancouver marketer, a developer executive, and possible lobbying breaches.
The program was designed to convert >2.2K vacant Metro Vancouver condominium units into affordable housing through federal and provincial housing agencies in BC.
During committee debate, one MP highlighted a Mid-Q1 fundraiser, Mid-Q2 unsold completed condos ↑~75% in Metro Vancouver, and a Late-Q2 non-condo property transaction.
Their earlier committee push ended on July 7, when a federal majority stopped debate on proposed witnesses and document requests for the program.
Separately, a public petition on BC condo acquisitions stayed open through October 24, seeking disclosure, independent appraisals, below-market pricing, and permanent affordability protections.
